Stellenbosch Canoe Club - founded in 1970 - is one of the oldest canoe clubs in the Western Cape and has produced more SA colours holders than any other club in this province!
The club is run through the Stellenbosch University under Maties Sport, and is affiliated with the Western Cape Canoe Union. We welcome both students of Stellenbosch University and non-students (including students of other institutions, juniors and more senior paddlers).
Our clubhouse is at the Vredenheim Dam , 5km outside Stellenbosch on the Baden Powell Drive on the way to Spier (noticable by the assortment of wildebeest, deer, ostrich and other unexpected animals which surround it).
Time-trials of 8-9km, called Dam Dices, are held weekly on Wednesday evenings starting at 17h45 in the summer months and 17h30 in winter. These are followed by a braai at the clubhouse.
Boat racks at the club are available for hire on an annual basis and the club also has some equipment (old boats, paddles and life-jackets) that members may use on the dam. Beginner coaching is available once a week, and advanced training groups take to the dam most evenings.
We take busses to most of the local races (included in membership fee) as well as to the Fish River Marathon (at a minimal extra cost) every year and are well known in the paddling community for our "gees".
